Security (DSS), the Police and the Army yesterday in Abuja paraded five
Boko Haram suspects arrested over Nyanya motorpark bombing of April 14.
A reward of N25million was placed on the two masterminds of the blast.
At a press conference held at the headquarters of the DSS in Abuja
yesterday, the department’s Deputy Director, Public Relations, Marilyn
Ogar, said the five suspects have confessed involvement in the bombing.
The DSS spokesperson said the suspects are Ahmad Rufai Abubakar (aka Abu Ibrahim/Maiturare), Muhammadu Sani Ishaq, Adamu Yusuf, Yau Saidu (aka Kotar Rama) and Anas Isah. She said Rufai Abubakar Tsiga, a Boko Haram leader and Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche who masterminded the attack, were at large.
Her words: “Tsiga, a Boko Haram leader is the mastermind of the bombing incident of April 14, 2014 at El-Rufai Motorpark, Nyanya near Abuja. Tsiga is at large. Abubakar was actively aided by a co-mastermind, Aminu Sadiq Ogwuche, a student of Arabic Language at the International University of Africa, Sudan. He is from Orokam, Ogbadibo LGA of Benue State. He is also at large.
“In the night of April 13, 2014, Tsiga and Muhammadu Sani Ishaq moved the vehicles laden with explosives to the Nyanya Motorpark. In the morning of April 14, 2014, Tsiga moved the vehicles to the position from where he detonated the explosives.
“Ishaq, who took part with Tsiga in positioning the explosives-laden vehicles that exploded at the Nyanya park, killing scores of Nigerians, is in the custody of this Service. Altogether, five persons who are privy to the bombing, have been taken into custody.
“Tsiga and Ogwuche currently at large, are hereby declared wanted. The sum of N25 million is hereby announced as reward for anybody with useful information on their whereabouts. It is noteworthy that United Kingdom-born Ogwuche with Service Number SVC 95/104, deserted the Nigerian Army in 2006.
“He served in the Intelligence Unit of the Nigerian Army at Child Avenue, Arakan Barracks, Lagos between 2001 and 2006 and was posted to the Nigerian Defence Academy (NDA) in 2006.
“Ogwuche was arrested on November 12, 2011 at the Nnamdi Azikiwe International Airport, Abuja, on his arrival from the United Kingdom, for suspected involvement in terrorism-related activities but was released on bail to his father, Col Agene Ogwuche (rtd), following intense pressure from activists who alleged human rights violation,” she noted.
In his confession, Ishaq, an indigene of Balari Village, Ajingi LGA of Kano State, who spoke through an interpreter among the paraded suspects, admitted driving the explosive-laden vehicles to the motorpark, just as Adamu Yusuf, a Moslem cleric at Finance Quarters Mosque, Wuye, Abuja, confessed being a member of Boko Haram since 2011.
Tsiga, aged 43, is an indigene of Yarimawa, Kazaure LGA of Jigawa State, while Yau Saidu, 28, was arrested at his village, Dandambo, Tsanyawa LGA of Kano State, just as 22-year-old Anas Isah, an indigene of Tsiga Bakori LGA of Katsina State, was picked up on May 3 at Unguwar Yan-Tagwaye Village in Katsina State.
